First Week Back

at the pool in Sanya

In front of school

We got back from our trip and had a restful few days hanging out and going to our friends for dinner.

It was a busy first week back to school. Isaac started off the week with a head cold. He came home Monday and Tuesday and feel asleep. We come home to a sleeping boy. He is doing much better now.

Happy Birthday Isaac

Matthew is taking Chinese painting and Games from around the world as an after school activity. Isaac is also talking Chinese painting but his other activity is puppet and book making. They both loved the first week.

Doug and I are both on committees and they are zapping a bit of time from us. We rush home each day to make it home before our Ayi has to leave. We also have had a large number of new students arrive. So we have been preparing for them.

oh the warm days of Sanya

I was VERY thankful for Skype this week. Our dear friends, Jeff and Erika Lervick had a baby boy this week. Ole Jeffrey Lervick was born to an amazing family. We can't wait to get home and meet the little guy. With the Withers and Wickstrom's help we were able to know as soon as others found out and we even got to see a picture. He is VERY cute. We felt very blessed for all those who made sure we were in the loop.

Doug and I got dressed up on Saturday night to go to a birthday party for our friend Trina. It was a Martini cocktail party. It was nice to get out and visit with other staff members.

Doug is giving finals this week and then grades so it is a busy time.

In two weeks we are heading to Harbin for the weekend to see the International Ice festival. It should be cold and beautiful.

What an end to our trip

We left sunny Sanya at 1:00 in the afternoon to catch our 3:30 flight. Once we got to the airport and checked in we found out that our flight was delayed. I went and asked how long it would be delayed. The lady said they did not have a time for our flight and for us to just sit. So that is what we did. We sat at the airport. It was hot and stuffy but we did it. Then I went back around 6:00 to see what the status was. Well the lady said come with me we will take you to the hotel. So off we ALL went to a hotel. That was crazy too. People were pushing to get a room. We just sat back and watched. Then we got our rooms. I asked again at the hotel if we will be spending the night or eating at the hotel. We well the lady just said to go to our room and rest. We only had our backpacks with us at this point. It was funny. Then the phone rang and we were told to go eat dinner at the hotel.
After our dinner we walked around for a bit and then went back to our rooms. The boys started to watch a movie but were tired so we called it a night at 9:00 (well we thought we did). Off to sleep we went, until the phone rang at 11:15 pm. The lady said to come to front desk within 10 minutes. So I had to wake everyone up and get our stuff together. Doug and Isaac did not get the call so Matthew and I had to go to their room and help them. We sat in the lobby until 12:30 and they took us back to the airport. Our flight left at 1:30 am. It was crazy.
The boys fell asleep on the plane for a bit and we finally made it to Dalian around 7:00 am. It was a crazy night. The amazing thing is the boys did great up until the last 30 minutes of the ride home from the airport. They had just had it.
We are thankful for being home and safe.
Now for some sleep :)

China

Things you don’t want to witness in China or just funny things
-the spitting and other gross coughing
-today a young boy about 8 did not get his way with his mother so he was yelling and hitting her. I just about lost it. Matthew and Isaac were watching with this look of fear on their faces. Then the boy was still mad and still not getting his way pulled down his pants and went to the bathroom on his mother. He thought it was so funny. The mother just looked at him and laughed. The father thought it was cute. I am not sure if we got his way in the end. UGH.. I guess it was a great thing to talk to Matthew and Isaac about respect and how we DON’T treat people. WOW.
- Matthew and I love the Merry Christmas 2010 signs. Did we miss a year?? Hehehe
